Attorney Linda Friedman Ramirez specializes in the representation of foreign nationals in criminal and civil matters.  Ms. Ramirez has developed her professional practice in the areas of federal and state criminal defense, appeals, post-conviction relief , wrongful death, and civil rights cases during her twenty-five year career as an attorney.  Her trial  experience includes over 100 trials in federal and state court, and arguing before state and federal appellate courts.  She has represented clients from Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, England, Cuba, Venezuela, Monrovia, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, and Central Asia.

Ms. Ramirez speaks Spanish fluently. She has been a consulting attorney to the Mexican Consulate in Orlando, Florida, and Portland, Oregon. She is a Fulbright Senior Specialist in Law.

Linda Friedman Ramirez has agressively represented her clients to seek the best outcome possible in a criminal case, particularly when there has been potential immigration consequences. She has also assisted other attorney regarding the immigration consequences of criminal convictions,  She is admitted to practice in federal court in Florida and Oregon, the 11th and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the US Supreme Court, and Florida and Oregon state courts.

Advocacy for Non U.S. Citizens

On June 21, 2002, Ms. Ramirez received the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association President's Award for her advocacy on behalf of Hispanics in Oregon. Ms. Ramirez has advocated for equal treatment of Hispanics in all aspects of the criminal justice system, particularly in the areas of pretrial release, and in immigration-related issues. She has been a frequent lecturer on topics relating to representation on non-citizens. (See Seminars and Publications).

In the summer of 1998, Ms. Ramirez partnered with the Mexican Consulate in Portland, Oregon in creating "Advice Regarding the Federal Crime of Illegal Reentry," a video in Spanish concerning immigration consequences for non-citizens pending state criminal court proceedings. This video, which was shown on a repeated basis by the Multnomah County Sheriff's office, was used to help educate defendants from Mexico and Central America regarding the immigration consequences of criminal convictions and the law of the federal criminal of illegal reentry. Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean

Ms. Ramirez first traveled to Mexico in 1964. She has traveled throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. In 1975-1976, she was employed by the Pan American Development Foundation, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Organization of American States. She has toured Argentina, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Mexico. In 1982 she participated in a National Lawyers Guild Delegation to Cuba. She will help lead a NLG Delegation to Bolivia in 2007. In 2003 she attended a Conference of the US Mexico Bar Association in Monterrey, Mexico and and in August of 2006, she attended the 7th Conferencia Anual Latino Americano Sobre Lavado de Dinero (Lavadodinero.com) in Mexico City.
